Aftercare Advice

This section explains how to educate clients on immediate post-treatment aftercare, including the setting phase, short-term care essentials, and troubleshooting. Proper aftercare ensures long-lasting results, lash health, and client satisfaction.

The Setting Phase: First 24-48 Hours

Right after a lash lift, lashes are soft, flexible, and still setting into their lifted shape, think of it as a “curing time” after a chemical treatment. This window is critical for long-lasting lift and tint results.

What Happens If Lashes Get Wet Too Soon?

During the first 24-48 hours, the chemical bonds in the lash lift solution are still stabilising. Premature moisture can cause:

  • Loss of curl or lift - lashes may straighten or droop.
  • Frizzing or misdirection - especially in coarse or unruly lashes.
  • Patchiness - some lashes may lift unevenly.
  • Weakening or brittleness - lashes may feel dry or snap easily.

If It Happens: How to Rescue the Lashes

If a client accidentally gets lashes wet or exposed to steam within 48 hours:

  • Stay calm - results may still be salvageable.
  • Gently brush lashes back into place while damp with a clean spoolie.
  • Allow lashes to air dry naturally.
  • Begin light lash serum application after 24 hours to rehydrate and condition lashes.

⚠️Important: Do not re-lift or re-tint, lashes need a full 6-8 week growth cycle before retreatment.

Why Moisture Is a Risk

During the setting phase, water, steam, or sweat can:

  • Interrupt the chemical setting process.
  • Weaken the curl, causing misdirection or frizz.
  • Dehydrate the lashes, making them prone to breakage.

Explaining the “why” helps clients understand the importance of following instructions, increasing compliance.

If a Client Slips Up

If a client contacts you saying they got their lashes wet too early:

  • Recommend gently brushing lashes into place while damp.
  • Suggest starting light serum application after 24 hours.
  • Offer a mini follow-up treatment (e.g., tint refresh, lash conditioning, minor lift adjustment) at 2-3 weeks if needed.

Aftercare vs. Ongoing Maintenance

Help clients understand the difference:

  • Aftercare (Immediate): Short-term protection and lash setting right after treatment.
  • Maintenance (Long-term): Daily habits that keep lashes healthy and the lift/tint lasting longer.

Client Communication & Satisfaction

Before the client leaves:

  • Ask: “Are you happy with the lift, curl, and tint today?”
  • Make final adjustments if needed (combing or shaping).
  • Provide written or digital aftercare instructions.
  • Encourage questions to build trust and confidence.

Reinforce With Aftercare Cards

Give clients:

  • A printed or digital aftercare card.
  • A short recap via email or text.
  • Optional: A video demo showing combing and serum application.

Many booking systems (Fresha, Ovatu, Timely) allow automated aftercare messages for a seamless client experience.

Retail Integration

Aftercare is a great opportunity to increase compliance and revenue:

  • Offer a mini lash serum or spoolie kit as a retail add-on.
  • Include it in the service price as a premium touch.

This supports results and adds value to your service.

Final Note

While long-term maintenance supports lash health, proper first 48-hour aftercare is non-negotiable. Educated clients follow instructions better, which leads to stronger, longer-lasting results.

Clear aftercare = Better results = Happy, returning clients
